Don't miss these 'library fever' inducing picture books!
There’s a lot of library excitement in the city of Milwaukee these days. MPL Express, a fully-automated 24-hour library opened in October; the new East Library is set to open soon (November 22nd!); and changes are on the horizon for the Tippecanoe branch. If you don’t already have library fever, here are some fabulous library-themed picture books guaranteed to get you there.
A Library Book for Bear by Bonnie Becker
Bonnie Becker’s books about Bear are always delightful. In this installment, Bear is dragged reluctantly to the library, where he grumbles: “There are far too many books in there. Most excessive!” Bear’s curmudgeonly demeanor will certainly give readers the giggles, but library-loving hearts will really soar when Bear is invited to story time by a friendly librarian and ultimately learns to appreciate the library.
Read It, Don't Eat It! by Ian Schoenherr
This simple picture book, with sweet, sort of old-fashioned renderings of cute little animals, teaches readers how best to treat the books they borrow from the library—but in a gentle, fun, and not too preachy way. Don’t sneeze on your books or color in them with crayons, and certainly make sure to return them on time!
Maisy Goes to the Library by Lucy Cousins
Oh, that loveable Maisy! She’s always up to something fun! For this adventure, she visits the library, where she’s determined to find a book about fish. During her visit, she samples much of what the library has to offer: she uses the computers, makes a couple copies, listens to music, and, most importantly, shares a few stories with some good friends.
Construction by Sally Sutton
Here’s a book fans of the Milwaukee Public Library will relate to. A new library building is being constructed. Watch the busy builders working together, hear the exciting sounds of construction, and see it all come together in a beautiful new library for the community.
Wolves by Emily Gravett
Gravett’s illustrations are clever, high-concept, and so darn fun. In Wolves, Rabbit goes to the library and checks out a book about—you guessed it—wolves. He gets more than he bargains for, though, when the scary predators seem almost to leap from the pages, threatening to turn Rabbit into prey. But a surprise ending might leave Rabbit (and the reader) heaving a sigh of relief.
For these and other fun books about libraries, stop in to your neighborhood library today. The friendly librarians can’t wait to help you find a good read.
