HOPE is the Central Theme of Dr. King's Last Book, "Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?"
At the King Branch, 17 quotations celebrating the words and wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. are inscribed on the end of the shelves. Here is a photo of one of the quotes:
This is a quote from the book, "Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?". This was Dr. King's 4th and last book before he was assassinated.
The current Martin Luther King Library opened on September 18, 1971 and was named the Locust Library. On April 12, 1973, the Locust Library was rededicated. Alderman Ben E. Johnson was co-author of the Common Council resolution which resulted in the renaming of the library for Dr. King.
Legislation designating Dr. King's birthday a national holiday was passed in 1983. At the King Branch, we are planning the 2016 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration: Celebrate Freedom! Freedom to do, to give, to be- anything you DREAM! It will take place on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 9am to 5pm. We believe the celebration will express the HOPE that Dr. King shared in his life, his work and his last book.
