Take a wordless picture book walk with Emily!
Taking a picture book walk is great fun with a wordless picture book. When there’s no text, the reader gets to make up a lot of the story, using only the images as a helpful guide. Below are three new and beautifully illustrated wordless children’s books that are guaranteed to take readers on a fantastic journey.
Princesse Camcam’s Fox’s Garden, illustrated with gorgeous illuminated dioramas, is a quiet yet wondrous winter’s tale. In it, a little boy and a red fox trade kindnesses sure to warm readers’ hearts. A book full of magic and delight.
The Line by Paula Bossio features seemingly simple line drawings of a girl and, well, a line. The girl’s got a wild imagination, and she brings the line vibrantly to life in ways both fun—Gigantic bubbles! A monkey swinging on a vine!—and a little bit frightening—Oh, no! Bears and monsters! A playful little book with a lot of spirit.
Raúl Colón has delivered many gorgeous picture books, usually serving only as illustrator. In Draw!, he forgoes text to tell a thrilling story of a young artist who, while lying in bed, imagines walking among and painting the wild animals of Africa. The illustrations are at times serene—as when the boy paints a kindly elephant’s portrait—and at times action-packed—as when he comes uncomfortably close to a racing rhino. A lovely ode to nature, art, and imagination.
